本产品标准适用于装在家用和类似用途单相交流额定电压不大于250V、额定电流不大于12A，直流额定电压不大于150V、额定电流不大于16A电器上的温度控制器具。它包括以双金属为感温元件来控制温度为目的的双金属温度调节器（简称调温器）和以*过热为目的的双金属温度限制器（简称限温器），两者统称为双金属温度控制器（简称控温器）。
调温器是一种周期性的温度控制器，温度可由使用者在规定范围内设定，在正常工作条件下温度保持在通断两设定值之间，当温度上升至上设定的温度或下降至下设定温度时，触点自动断开或接通电路，保持器具温度在某*范围之间的双金属温度调节器。
